First Steps (A Short Story)

'"First Steps" is the story of Dave Riggler's first psychotherapy session. He's a handicapped teenager, who uses a wheelchair, in therapy (he thinks) because the school he's going to wants him to walk on a walker, but he doesn't want to. "First Steps" is a story about being handicapped, identity, and self-determination, for better or worse.

Brian Hartman lives in Scotch Plains, NJ. He is the author of Dave Riggler's Stories, as well as numerous short stories, and the upcoming collection, Long-Distance Dedications.
