Christian Marclay

Christian Marclay Cities follows the artists wanderings, transforming urban fragments into a visual and sonic score. Featuring texts by Sérgio Mah and Olivia Laing, plus a conversation with Ben Luke, the book uncovers the rhythms and poetry embedded in everyday city life and amplifies Marclays artistic practice at the intersection between visual arts, popular culture, and contemporary sound expression. Beautifully designed by Laurent Benner, this richly illustrated volume offers critical insights into Marclays creative process and reveals his distinctive way of confronting artistic hierarchies, often juxtaposing elements of high and low culture. The book features a selection of works spanning almost fifty years of work., which sees the city, the street, and everyday life transformed into spaces charged with visual and sonic signals.

Sérgio Mah (geb. 1970 in Beira, Mosambik) hat einen Doktortitel in Multimedia-Kunst und ist Dozent an der Fakultät für Sozial- und Humanwissenschaften der NOVA-Universität Lissabon. Seine Forschungs- und Schwerpunkte liegen im Bereich der zeitgenössischen Kunst, mit besonderem Fokus auf bildbasierten Praktiken und Theorien. Seit 2003 hat er als Kurator zahlreiche Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen in nationalen und internationalen Institutionen organisiert. Seit 2023 ist er stellvertretender Direktor des MAAT - Museum für Kunst, Architektur und Technologie in Lissabon.
Sérgio Mah is a lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of NOVA University Lisbon. Since 2023, he has been the Deputy Director of MAAT: Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, Lisbon.
