Reporting directly from the streets and community rooms of Western New York, this quarterly installment documents three critical battlegrounds where local networks are building a prefigurative future in the shell of a decaying economy. ​From the historic soil sovereignty struggles of the Black community in the Fruit Belt, to the horizontal ecological retrofitting models on the West Side, and the quiet, defensive methodology of legal rent diversion, The Active Frontlines provides a bare-bones look at how alternative social architecture functions under heavy fire. ​A collaborative work of journalistic non-fiction curated by Edward Todd Harris III and the Buffalo Writers' Co-op, this text is released entirely into the informational commons under a Creative Commons ShareAlike framework—designed to be read, adapted, and replicated by the neighboring blocks.
