Frederik Pohl (1919-2013) was one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century science fiction. Over a long career he worked not only as a writer but also as an editor, literary agent, and promoter of the genre.Pohl wrote numerous novels and short stories that combined imaginative speculation with social and political insight. His works frequently examined the effects of technology, economics, and corporate power on everyday life. Among his most celebrated books are Gateway, which won both the Hugo and Nebula Awards, and his collaborations with C. M. Kornbluth, including The Space Merchants.Through both his fiction and his editorial work, Pohl helped shape the development of modern science fiction and remains widely regarded as one of the genre's most perceptive and enduring voices.
