This book explores the interaction of Ulysses S Grant with Meiji Japan from 1869-85. It discusses the travels of the Iwakura Mission in the US, considers Grant's 1879 visit to Japan and the relationship between Grant, the Meiji emperor and leaders of the Meiji government.
