Beschreibung

Mallorca, 1960. A ten-year-old girl has been brutally murdered. Ángel Roca, a police inspector, investigates the case as an unprecedented wave of crimes begins in Franco's Spain. After the discovery of the fourth victim, tired of palace life and the cabinet of sycophants who day by day distance him further from his glorious past as an elite soldier, Francisco Franco decides to travel incognito to the Balearic Islands to take charge of an impossible investigation and study in person the bloody murders that are keeping his wife awake at night. The problem for a police officer who hates the Regime and the head of state is that, together, they must draw up a psychological profile based on intuition and the various characters parading before them, from humble fishermen to legendary Nazis protected by a corrupt government. 'The Ten Deaths of Francisco Franco' takes us deep into the different Spains of a pivotal era in the country's history, while also revealing the dictator's most intimate and unknown side. An intense thriller, but also a historical novel that portrays the Caudillo in an unusual way. Francisco Franco himself moves through its pages as a crucial figure in its machinery. 'The Ten Deaths of Francisco Franco' offers a reading experience that is both absorbing and educational because it addresses the history of our country over the past century. And it does so through a complex noir plot with a completely unexpected ending. "Martín Garrido is a powerful writer who has managed, with highly skilled prose, to craft a thriller about a period in Spain's history that remains relevant today." JOSÉ CARLOS SOMOZA "Martin Garrido's literary audacity knows no bounds. A hypnotic narrative that transports us to the 1960s, perfectly reconstructed by the author's impeccable prose." JOSÉ LUIS MUÑOZ
