Without You, There is No Us

Suki Kim recounts her life in North Korea. In 2011 all universities in the country were shut down, apart from the all-male Pyongyang University of Science and Technology. Kim taught English there, struggling to teach her young charges to write, all under the watchful eye of the regime. A rare insight into a secretive totalitarian nation.

Suki Kim was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, and has travelled in North Korea as a journalist since 2002. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Harper's and the New York Review of Books. She is the author of the award-winning novel, The Interpreter, and the recipient of Guggenheim and Fulbright fellowships.
